F.A.Q.

Q: What are the school hours?

A: On our normal school day, non-remote learning, our school's schedule are:

• Monday: 8:45am - 3:15pm

• Tuesday: 8:45am - 3:15pm

• Wednesday: 8:45am - 1:05pm

• Thursday: 8:45am - 3:15pm

• Friday: 8:45am - 3:15pm

   *Wednesdays are short days for students because the after hours are for teacher's professional development time. This is the time teachers and staff gather together to collaborate the best practices for safety, teaching and to assess each other's lessons.

Q: How often do teachers/staff contact parents?

A: We have an advisory program which is the cornerstone of our school. We assign the students to an advisor that they stay with for 4 years and they are parent's point of contact. Everyday from 8:45am - 8:55am is the advisory check-in and when a student is late or absent then the advisor will reach out to the parents.

Q: Do students have to wear uniforms?

A: No, our school is not a uniform attire school. However, we expect our students to wear an appropriate attire. We have a strict No Hats and Hoods policy. Students should not put on their hats and hoods when they are in school. We are a business school and we are preparing them for the real world.

Q: How do you support students with IEPS?

A: We do offer IEP courses for all grades. We have IEP coordinator and Special Education Teachers that meet every Wednesdays to work on ways to best support IEP students.

Q: What are the requirements for students to be eligible to participate in the college courses?

A: College Now, AP for All, Linct are based on GPA scores and express interest in pursuing these courses.

Q: Do you offer students internships?

A: We have various internships programs that starts Junior year which are all paid. We had students previously interning at JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Board of Education, Maslanksy and Partners and other finance firms.

Q: How do you determine who gets accepted to your school?

A: We are an Op-Ed school that means 50% is based on a DOE lottery and 50% is decided by us. We do not base the selection on grades, we based it in the student's interest in our school by placing our school as their #1 choice and their attendance on our open house events. We get about 1,200 applicants to our school and we have about 120 open seats.

Q: Do students feel safe in your school?

A: Yes, our students are in a safe environment. We are located in Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan. Even when our school is in a shared building with 6 other schools, we have the whole 2nd floor to ourselves. We have staff in the hallways at all times and during lunch time. The only times our students might interact with other students from other schools is during entry, dismissal, and in the cafeteria that we have our own section.

Q: How is the basketball team like?

A: Our basketball team is competitive and we have our own basketball team. Our principal, Karen Polsonetti, is the head of athletic department for the entire building. All coaches report to her so she has an edge and provide spaces for our students.
